Be patient. September will be here soon. In the meantime I would do whatever I could to become familiar with the shelter. Find out what are the typical duties of volunteers? Make sure you have your transportation lined up. School will be starting soon. Wait and see what the homework load will be like so that you can plain your schedule. Start becoming familiar with the animal welfare laws in your state and community. You probably will not be advising people who come in since you are so young but it is good information to know.
I understand that you will probably begin learning all of this at your volunteer trainig. It doesn’t hurt to begin learning it now.
Congratulations on your decision to volunteer then become a vet. You are needed and the work you will do is very rewarding. You will be making the lives of countless animals so much easier.
