How Does A Trial De Novo Work In Orange County, California?

I received a speeding ticket in Orange County, California, and I want to fight it with a trial by written declaration. If I were to lose this trial by declaration and be found guilty, I would then file for a Trial de Novo (a new trial). My question is: if I were to be found guilty in the trial by written declaration, would I forfeit my option to go to traffic school? Or would I still be able to pay the traffic school fee and attend the school to keep the point off of my record?

John S says:

It does not forfeit the option, however it becomes discretionary with the hearing officer, who must consider the option, though I understand that some routinely refuse to permit it after a trial.
